It's Carnival!

It's Carnival!

Monday is for Red Beans and Rice!

Monday was traditionally laundry day, and Red Beans and Rice it’s an easy meal to prepare when you’re occupied with the wash and makes use of any pork bones from a Sunday meal.

January is cold and dark, and I’m prone to melancholia this time of year especially.  The holidays are over, and the nights are long. I find myself embracing the traditions of one of my favorites cities in the world, and that of my New Orleans neighbors and friends in order to add some cheer to this season.

Mardi Gras “Fat Tuesday” is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent for Christians. But did you know Carnival is an entire season?  From Twelfth Night and Epiphany (the end of the Christmas season) until Ash Wednesday (the beginning of the Lenten season) it’s Carnival! A time to celebrate, eat, drink and be merry!

This is a time where I listen to Allen Toussaint, stitch Mardi Gras themed canvases and eat Red Beans and Rice on Monday! If you can’t tell, I love a good tradition.

Is there anything better than a delicious meal, music that makes you move and needlepoint on cold and dark January night? Let's let the good times roll, shall we?
