We've been talking about ways to enhance your stitching by investing in high-quality tools. While quality is important, it's also important to have the right tools.
To achieve the best results in needlepoint, use tapestry needles (not sewing needles) designed specifically for this form of hand embroidery.
- Needle Features: Larger eyes accommodate thicker threads. Blunt tips prevent thread splitting during stitching.
- Size Considerations: Choose the right needle size: it should fit snugly in the canvas and stay halfway in place. Use different needles for 18 mesh (size 22) and 13 mesh (size 20). Size 21 needles may work for both, but personal preference varies.
- Canvas Purchase: We include the appropriate needle size with your canvas to ensure compatibility. Most shops do.
However, we may occasionally mislabel needle sizes or forget to include one, so it's wise not to rely solely on them. While bulk needles from shops are usually great quality, preferences vary among users.
